Novulo Brings AI to Every Role Across the Platform
Everyone is talking about data quality. And rightly so. But for AI, clean data is only part of the story.
An AI model can analyze thousands of documents or process millions of records, but without understanding the underlying processes, definitions, business rules, and relationships between them, it is still largely guessing.
A customer ID is just a number. A policy is just a document. A claim amount is just a figure. Only when AI understands how all these elements relate to one another can it reliably support decision-making and execute processes autonomously.
That context is precisely what is missing from many AI initiatives today. As a result, many organizations remain stuck with isolated pilots and chatbots that can provide information but never become an integral part of business operations.
During Composable Futures 2026, Novulo demonstrated why composable software provides a fundamentally different foundation for AI.
Architecture Determines What AI Understands
At the core of the Novulo platform is a reference architecture that captures not only data, but also its meaning. Processes, business rules, definitions, components, and relationships together form a digital model of the organization.
According to founder and CEO Frank Wille, that is exactly what AI requires.
"Our reference architecture accurately defines data structures, business definitions, and processes. As a result, AI understands not only the information itself, but also the context in which it is used."
That context makes AI more predictable, more reliable, and easier to govern. While many AI solutions simply respond to prompts, AI within Novulo operates based on the application's own business logic.
"This approach provides a model for governance by design, and we've found that the consistency of our components also makes the entire platform highly understandable for a wide range of AI models," says Wille.
AI Out of the Box
The next step is enabled by the Model Context Protocol (MCP). While APIs allow software systems to communicate with each other, MCP enables AI models to collaborate directly with applications.
This means AI is no longer dependent on custom integrations or bespoke development to perform tasks.
AI gains access to the application's available processes, functionality, contextual information, and its reference architecture. As a result, AI understands not only the capabilities provided by the application itself, but also which capabilities exist outside the application and are delivered by other software solutions.
MCP will soon be included in Novulo applications as well. "That means applications can deliver MCP tools alongside APIs out of the box," says Wille.
AI in Every Role of the Application
During his keynote, Wille demonstrated what this looks like in practice.
In one demonstration, an AI agent guided a customer through configuring and purchasing a motorcycle insurance policy—not as a standalone chatbot sitting next to the application, but as an integrated part of the business process.
Employees benefit as well. By combining process mining with AI, organizations gain continuous insight into where processes slow down or can be improved. Users receive contextual guidance, recommendations, and suggested next steps exactly when they need them.
AI therefore becomes not another interface, but a natural part of everyday work.
One Interface for the Entire User Journey
During Composable Futures, Novulo also unveiled a first look at its redesigned user interface.
Where users today often switch between multiple screens and functions, the new interface brings the entire user journey together in one consistent workspace.
The interface automatically adapts to each user's role, permissions, and responsibilities. At the same time, the platform observes how the application is being used and can proactively recommend relevant functionality—even capabilities that are not yet actively part of the application.
The result is a workspace that continuously adapts to the user, rather than forcing the user to adapt to the software.
Configuring Applications with Natural Language
One of the most notable innovations Novulo presented happens behind the scenes.
Its entire reference architecture has been optimized for AI. Building on that foundation, Novulo developed an expression generator that allows applications to be configured using natural language.
Business rules, conditions, clauses, workflows, and mapping fields can therefore be created significantly faster.
According to Wille, the impact extends far beyond accelerating configuration.
"Because the AI model has access to the entire reference architecture, it can also suggest functionality that is not yet present in the application."
AI therefore supports not only the execution of business processes, but also the design and continuous improvement of applications.
A Platform Built for AI
Many software vendors are adding AI to their existing applications. Novulo has taken a different approach.
By enabling AI to operate from within the context of the reference architecture, Novulo has created a platform where AI is not an add-on but an integral part of the software itself.
The strength of that foundation is demonstrated by Novulo's customers. Several have continuously evolved on the platform for more than a decade without ever needing to replatform. They have seamlessly adopted new .NET versions, modern user interfaces, and in several cases have scaled their businesses significantly along the way.
Composable software therefore provides not only a flexible foundation for changing business processes, but also for the next generation of AI-driven applications.
This is not the destination, but the direction in which Novulo continues to build together with its customers and partners.
