Markel replaces core systems in record time for faster claims and policy processing

Markel Netherlands has replaced its existing CCS/Level system with the Novulo platform. In just eight months, the insurer implemented an integrated solution for all core processes: from customer relationship management to policy administration and claims handling. Since going live on December 1, 85% of all policies have been successfully renewed.

Markel replaces core systems in record time for faster claims and policy processing

Full Replatforming in Eight Months

The implementation took eight months, including the summer period. During the data migration, all customer, policy, and financial data were transferred with maximum accuracy. The go-live on December 1 aligned with Markel’s fiscal year. Shortly afterward, the December and January policy renewals were successfully executed, extending 85% of all policies.

IG&H supports the implementation and also manages the application. This collaboration further strengthens the connection between technology and insurers.

What This Means for Markel

Processes are faster and more flexible. Markel can respond better to market developments, such as launching new products in the Marine segment. Intermediaries working with Markel benefit from smoother processing of applications and changes.

In 2026, a new broker portal will be launched, allowing standard products to be fully handled through Straight Through Processing (STP). This contributes to an improved end-customer experience.

"We wanted to stay ahead, but we were hitting limits in connectivity and flexibility. With Novulo, we can now implement the latest technological developments in our processes and improve our service to customers. We now have a platform that works the way we work. We can launch new products faster, like our Marine line, and have the freedom to add features whenever we need them." - Sjanil Bansraj, Director Sales & Marketing at Markel

The Complexity of Data Migration

Fourteen years of customer, policy, and financial data had to be seamlessly transferred. This level of precision was crucial for the migration’s success.

"We achieved 100% alignment on all data, both current and historical. That precision was critical. Markel could continue with their core tasks immediately after go-live. This shows that large-scale migrations in the insurance sector are feasible within short timelines." - Stephan de Jong, Managing Director Insurance Solution at IG&H

80% standard, 20% customized

"Markel now operates on a platform that is 80% standard and 20% tailored to their way of working. This balance allowed them to go live quickly in just eight months while remaining flexible for the future. This is exactly what Novulo stands for." - Frank Wille, CEO of Novulo

In the coming years, the sector will increasingly focus on digitalization through modern technology and STP processes. Markel is now ready for this future.
